“Your soul is lit from within, and that light is a spark of divinity shining through you.
It is steady and unwavering, and like your consciousness, it goes where you go.”
– Kira Rosner, When Souls Take Flight: Coping with Grief
When Souls Take Flight: Coping with Grief shines light on a subject that is all too often equated with darkness. This soothing book presents a refreshing, non-sectarian view of what happens when we die. With particular focus on the longevity of the soul, it offers compassionate advice for anyone who is grieving, caring for a loved one in their final days, or terminally ill themselves. If you’ve lost someone you love, or are about to, this book was written for you.
An Excerpt: When Souls Take Flight
When Souls Take Flight: Coping with Grief was inspired by a series of revelations that began while caring for my precious father.
My family and I had one focus–dad’s comfort. Day after day we did everything we could to ease his journey.
Then, I had a light bulb moment. I realized his physical comfort was only part of the picture. To help him in a meaningful way, I also had to address his feelings around death.
I had no plan or specific idea how to do that. What I did have was big love and the intense desire to support him in his final days.
Trusting the words would come I began to talk, which is when I witnessed the power of love in action. My intention to soothe my father was so heartfelt, it opened a window in my awareness, and I began to explain what happens when we die.
The more I talked, the more I knew and my descriptions of the afterlife grew. I assured my father he would not die. “When your breath comes to rest,’ I said, “your soul will gently disengage from your body with your life force fully intact. You will return to your spiritual home, where you will be lovingly received and reunited with those who departed before you.”
Dad and I had this conversation many times. When he passed, I had the privilege of watching his soul leave his body, affirming what I knew to be true. Death is not the absence of life. It is merely the absence of the physical form.
